NZ OUTDOOR PHOTO STORY COMPETITION

ENTRIES ARE OPEN

 

This is a photography and writing competition with a prize pool of $1000.

Entry is simple; submit up to five photos and a written description of an adventure you’ve had in the NZ outdoors. Entry is free.

The goal is to use people’s stories to inspire others.

 

Ok I’m in! What do I do?

 

Step One: Pick between one and five photos that show a memorable adventure you’ve had. The photos should work as a group to tell a story, be executed well, and focus on the NZ outdoors.

 

Step Two: Write up to 1000 words describing what happened and why it was meaningful. Your description should work well with the photos, tell a story, and be easy to read.

Step Three: Submit your entry. Done!

 

 TIMELINE

1st of December - competition opens

1st of February - competition closes and judging begins

1st of March - judging ends and winners announced

  • NICK ALLEN

    Based in Ōtautahi (Christchurch), Nick life’s mission is to inspire and enable people with neurological disabilities to get outdoors. After receiving a neurological diagnosis 15 years ago, Nick set out to create a community of people who love to get outdoors despite their diagnosis. Now, Nick supports and mentors others through his charity, Mastering Mountains Charitable Trust. When he is not climbing or tramping, Nick also works as a content creator, writer and brand ambassador.

  • LIZ CARLSON

    Liz Carlson's passion for travel began while living on multiple continents, where she discovered that being a "travel blogger" was a real career. Since then, she has relocated to New Zealand, transformed her blog into a full-time profession, and even authored a book. Her latest adventure involves expedition guiding in the icy Arctic and Antarctic. 

  • MATT GIRVAN

    Matt Girvan returns to the judging panel, bringing his passion for adventure. An award-winning filmmaker and Altra-sponsored athlete, Matt has embraced life in London after leaving his native New Zealand and a stint in Edinburgh. Whether he’s pounding the trails or fine-tuning his latest video project, he’s always chasing the next adventure. For Matt, storytelling is more than just a craft—it’s a way of life.
