NZ OUTDOOR PHOTO STORY COMPETITION

This is a photography and writing competition with a prize pool of $1000.

Entry is simple; submit up to five photos and a written description of an adventure you’ve had in the NZ outdoors. Entry is free.

The goal is to use people’s stories to inspire others.

Ok I’m in! What do I do?

 

Step One: Pick between one and five photos that show a memorable adventure you’ve had. The photos should work as a group to tell a story, be executed well, and focus on the NZ outdoors.

 

Step Two: Write up to 1000 words describing what happened and why it was meaningful. Your description should work well with the photos, tell a story, and be easy to read.

Step Three: Submit your entry. Done!

1st of December - competition opens

8th of February - competition closes and judging begins

1st of March - judging ends and winners announced

OUR JUDGES

  • JACK JENSEN

    Jack Jensen is an extreme sports athlete & the founder of MSFT Productions, where he has worked alongside creating content with iconic brands such as Red Bull, Stark Varg, Air New Zealand, Rhythm & Vines, Harley Davidson, HUFFER the list rolls on. He is also the founder and director of Spark That Chat charity, an organisation dedicated to helping save lives and communities thrive, through taking action. An avid outdoor enthusiast, Jack is passionate about giving back to his local community so he is super stoked to help out with this incredible competition full of talent.

  • KATE AKASS

    Kate is a Wānaka-based mum, business owner, and mountain lover, who thrives on time in the mountains and exploring beautiful Aotearoa with her family. From big missions to little local adventures with her husband, the kids and dog, she’s passionate about nature, conservation, and making the outdoors part of everyday life.

  • MATT GIRVAN

    Returning judge Matt Girvan is back for another round. A seasoned ultra runner and award-winning filmmaker, this Kiwi abroad is now based in London. Whether he’s exploring historic trails around the UK and Europe or piecing together his next project in the editing suite, Matt is always immersed in the world of adventure and storytelling.

JUDGING CRITERIA

  • Entries will be judged on the following criteria;

    • how evocative and compelling the story is,

    • how technically proficient the story is,

    • how evocative and compelling the photos are,

    • how technically proficient the photos are,

    • and, how well the story and the photos work together.

  • Each section is worth 1 - 5 points. All section scores are added together to get an overall score (out of a maximum of 25 points).
